In pursuit of more methods to enhance learning and understanding of accidents, GETA Group is exploring ways to recreate smaller scale events by using Google Sketchup.
Sketchup has a slightly higher learning curve than Google Earth, but the potential power of using 3D models in training and education is obvious. This page will be used to further explore that potential.
- Our "proof-of-concept" to enhance an Accident Prevention Analysis is located below under the Crandall Felling Accident APA folder. This folder contains the official APA document, a movie with the felling accident recreated in 3D, and the Google Sketchup 3D model used to create the movie. The model and movie were created by Ben Murphy, USFS, over the course of one week during the APA process on site in Wyoming. The movie should compliment the report to help viewers better understand what happened during the accident. The model can be loaded in Sketchup and used to facilitate discussion or classroom style presentations for felling scene complexity.
